Winter Birds Free-for-All

Woodpeckers winter over in Massachusetts' North Shore.

Joppa Flats Education Center invites families to join them for a full day of free outdoor and indoor nature activities, art projects, and birding! While some songbirds have left for a warmer climate, our resident winter birds are happily preparing for the cold and the snow.

This drop in program has a lot of fun activities for all family members to enjoy the natural beauty of this festive season:

  • Observe a winter bird banding demonstration.
  • Make a birdseed bagel or a fruit wreath for your backyard birds.
  • String popcorn and cranberries and decorate our feeder tree.
  • For ages 7 and up:
    • design the ultimate bird feeder
    • examine bird wings
    • take our interactive quiz on winter bird calls
  • For ages 2 to 6:
    • storytelling
    • crafts
    • guided games about trees, birds, and weather
